At the Manhattan Free School we have rolling enrollment. This means that a student can enroll any time during the school year. If a student enrolls after the school year has begun, the tuition is prorated for the remainder of the school year. The steps necessary to enroll at the Manhattan Free School are described below. If you have any questions about enrolling, please contact us at 212-533-2826 or info@manhattanfreeschool.org.
The first step to enroll in the Manhattan Free School is to visit the school. Tours are usually held once a week while school is in session, and information sessions are held periodically throughout the summer. Open Houses are held once a month. At these meetings, the staff/parents/students give a brief overview of the school philosophy, answer questions about the school, and give a tour of the school facilities. We schedule tours on days when we hold our Democratic Meetings, so that visitors have the opportunity to observe this essential part of our school. See our calendar or call the school for Open House, Tour, and Information Session dates.
After you have visited the school, you can schedule an interview. The best way to do this is to call the school at 212-533-2826 or send an email to info@manhattanfreeschool.org. The purpose of the interview is to offer another opportunity for parents and students to become familiar with the school philosophy and to ask any remaining questions.
After the interview, the student may register for a visiting week . The visiting week allows the student an opportunity to be at the school for a week and experience what it is like to be a Manhattan Free School student, with no obligation to enroll. The visiting week fee of $150 is applied toward tuition if a student enrolls.
After attending the visiting week, a family can enroll their child by meeting with the Admissions person to complete the enrollment forms. At the time of enrollment the first and last months’ tuition and materials fee are due. Enrollment at MFS is considered to have commenced as of the first day of the visiting week.
